1992 Ibanez JEM77-FP
About this instrument
Generally speaking, I hate Ibanez guitars. I bought this guitar brand new in 1992 when I was in college and didn’t know anything about the construction and materials that make guitars great.
As a company, Ibanez has had a long history of shady practices. Whether it is selling guitars under the pretense that they are made of high quality woods when they were not or stealing Gibson designs to the point that they were successfully sued. Ibanez history of success is tying inferior quality and build guitars to famous musicians and having the reputation of those musicians sell their instruments to unknowing buyers.
Ibanez typically uses inferior woods and metals. Their guitars also typically feature tons of plastic and inferior parts. This guitar featured a Basswood body, Maple neck and an Indian Rosewood fretboard. It has DiMarzio PAF pickups and an inferior Floyd Rose licensed tremolo that uses plastic bushings for the tremolo arm. It doesn’t resonate well, has mediocre sustain and substandard tuning stability. It sounds ok at best. I sold this one long ago.
